What is biochar?

In 2002, the biomass pyrolysis gasification polygeneration team headed by Professor Zhou Jianbin pioneered the biomass pyrolysis gasification polygeneration utilization technology, which overturned the mode of direct combustion of agricultural and forestry wastes for power generation and single output. It not only has biomass energy, but also can produce biomass carbon at the same time, realizing negative carbon emissions!




Biomass gasification polygeneration technology also innovates the history of fertilizer. The use of carbon-based fertilizer and biomass-extracted liquid fertilizer can directly reduce the amount of fertilizer by 10-30%, and has certain efficacy, which can repair degraded, compacted and acidified soil.

Since 2016, Nianda Group, relying on a professional team led by Professor Huang Yaji of Southeast University and Professor Zhou Jianbin of Nanjing Forestry University, has realized the achievement and marketization of this technological research, and has developed a fluidized bed biomass carbonization device, which can convert agricultural biomass such as rice husk straw into biochar, with an average biomass quality of 1.2t per hour and a carbon yield of 350kg.

The straw charcoal produced by this equipment can be used to produce carbon-based compound fertilizer, which is of great benefit to the improvement of soil remediation and the increase of crop production. Fruit shell charcoal can be used to produce high-quality activated carbon by physical or chemical methods. At the same time, the biomass gas produced can be directly burned to generate electricity or supplied to the gas industry after treatment.

Scientific research will not stop because of achievements. In 2021, Da Group will strengthen its technical research and develop a new modular movable fluidized bed, which has achieved a comprehensive iterative upgrade in performance, structure and configuration. It covers only 1/3 of the original device and can be used in a mobile way. By directly processing wastes such as straw and fruit branches in the field, biomass carbon will be returned to the field to maximize the convenience of use.

That is, the use of per 1t of agricultural and forestry biomass gasification polygeneration, from three aspects of carbon dioxide emission reduction:

1.1.72t of biomass formation (growth process) to absorb carbon dioxide;

2.0.6 of carbon dioxide fixation by biochar -1t;

3. Carbon dioxide 1.3t to replace fossil energy emission reduction; 3.6 of total carbon dioxide emission reduction -4t!

At the end of September 2021, a new modular movable fluidized bed developed by a group of R & D team members of Nianda Group in the workshop successfully produced a large amount of biomass carbon after rigorous operation, and met the product quality requirements, and the production test was a complete success.

The successful production of this biochar also marks that Nianda Group has reached a new level on the road of achieving the "double carbon" standard.




In the future, Da Group will continue to deepen research and development in the environmental manufacturing sector, deepen efforts in soil remediation and improvement, focus on rural areas, centralize agricultural and forestry waste, respond to the government's call for carbon neutrality, and recycle agricultural and forestry waste.
